Three and a half stars. I liked that the story was just a little different but the characters were just ok. Her decision to trust him was strange and her reaction to him being a dragon was pretty ho-hum until he actually changed into a dragon. Her ‘friends’ and her mother were exceptionally rotten to her. This was one fmc that deserved an HEA. It’s a good, quick read but not my favorite from this author I received a free copy of this book and I am voluntarily leaving my honest review.

Crux is feeling the pressure from his father and Elders. He's supposed to find a mate before the net moon but so far none are lighting his fire. His solution - visit the local seer. She sees his mate on a nearby planet so off Crux pops - and lands in the middle of an escape mission by Courtney! Courtney was scooped up from Earth but she managed to get away - pity she's on an alien planet with nothing to help her accept her trusty skates! Another alien helps her to escape but he's not exactly the boy next door, he's got scales, he can breathe fire and he says he's royalty! Crux and Courtney are perfect mates for each other. Crux needs someone who won't let him walk all over her and will be his partner. Courtney wants someone who can help her navigate this world she's landed on but also see that she has her own worth. Crux was a tad dim on occasion, he really takes a while to see what Courtney is to him. I'm really looking forward to seeing who the series progresses.

The writing was clean, with no typos that I found, but it was choppy and clumsy, which negatively impacted the authorial voice. This romance had too many very convenient obstacles in the plot that did not make a ton of logical sense, and the characterization was flat and two dimensional. The development of the romantic relationship was indifferent due to the flat characterization. I do not recommend this sci-fi romance. There are many others written by this author that are better. I received a free copy of this book, and am voluntarily leaving a review.
