Daniel Defoe (1660-1731) Daniel Defoe was an writer, journalist, and spy. Born in London as the son of a merchant, he worked on various businesses, but failed. Since then, he has been writing political papers and working in the media, and in 1719, he published Robinson Crusoe and gained fame.
