Raymond Joseph Martinez (1889-1982) was an author and publisher. Born on October 17, 1889 in West Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Martinez owned his own publishing company, Hope Publications. He was the author of a number of books on Louisiana life and history, including: Portraits of New Orleans Jazz (1971); The Naval Career of Lawrence Rousseau (1968); Pierre George Rousseau, Commanding General of the Galleys of the Mississippi (1964); The Story of Spanish Moss (1959); Louisiana’s Fabulous Foods and How to Cook Them (1957); The Immortal Margaret Haughery (1956); The Story of the New Orleans River Front (1955); The Story of the River Front at New Orleans (1948); and In The Parish of St. John (1925). Martinez served as business manager for Arts and Antiques and Arts, Industries and Southern Opinion magazines. He died in Metairie, Louisiana on January 1, 1982, aged 92.
