Henry Drummond was a Scottish evangelist and writer, a protege of D.L. Moody, and a scholar of natural sciences. Born August 17, 1851, Drummond studied at the University of Edinburgh and joined the Free Church of Scotland. He lectured on natural science at the Free Church College, then traveled to Africa and Australia. His Lowell Lecture in Boston inspired McClure to have Drummond write for the magazine. He died in 1897, and became known for his treatises The Ascent of Man and The Monkey That Would Not Kill.
