Everyone has a view about animal ethics. Each of us, for example, has an opinion about whether we should eat meat; whether animals should be used for scientific research, or whether the use of animals in sport is acceptable. But very few of us stop to wonder about the basis of our views, or to rationalise them. About the author
Dr Madeleine Campbell is a Veterinarian, a European Diplomate in Animal Welfare Science, Ethics and Law, and a clinical specialist in Equine Reproduction. In addition to her veterinary qualifications, Madeleine holds a MA in Medical Ethics and Law, and was the first veterinarian ever to be awarded a Bioethics Fellowship by the Wellcome Trust. She currently teaches and researches ethics and human-animal interactions at the Royal Veterinary College, UK.
