Mary Louise Kelly wurde in Georgia geboren und hat in Harvard und Cambridge studiert. Als Reporterin für das Hörfunknetzwerk NPR und für die BBC hat sie die ganze Welt bereist. Zusammen mit ihrem Mann und ihren zwei Kindern lebt sie abwechselnd in Washington, D.C. und Florenz.
