The Last Goodbye - A beautiful love story between a young British woman and a young American airman and the sacrifice she makes for love. Set in both January, 1944, during WWII, and in 2014, a diary connects a clueless young woman and the older woman that left the younger her home and worldly possessions. Couple of places could be tearjerkers, but the story is well written with plenty of emotions, cruelty and love. Source: BookSirens. 5* Out of the Ashes - A forbidden romance between an English schoolteacher and a German POW set in England during 1944 - 1946. While Clare and Max are the main romantic characters, I think war decimated Berlin has a greater romance hidden in its rubble. Only spoiler given. With WWII as the backdrop, I enjoyed the story unfolding with love, hate, betrayal, suffering and hope through out the pages. Well written and well thought out, do not expect a tear-jerker, there are emotions but the horrors of WWII are not in your face. 5*
