She is programmed to kill.

He’ll do anything to survive.

When Captain Caleb Shepperd is released from prison, all he wants to do is keep his head down and smuggle contraband through the nine systems. But there’s a problem with that plan. The synthetic human stowed away in his cargo bay carries secrets from a past he thought he’d escaped. Secrets that could bring him and the nine systems to its knees.

Now the authorities want Shepperd dead and his ship in pieces. And the synth? Well, she has an itchy trigger finger and murder on her synthetic mind.

Shepperd is about to discover he can’t outrun his past, especially when that past has orders to kill.

Action, drama, and suspense collide in this no-holds-barred sci-fi adventure!

Comparing this series to Firefly is an insult to Firefly and Joss Whedon. There is nothing particularly sexy about the Girl From Above series. Whether Harlequin Romance or Hustler, porn exists to give our masturbatory fumbling the illusion of being a shared experience. Pippa makes certain that her characters are alone even when engaging in sex with one another. If the plot and characters had received equal attention, we could forgive the bleak scrabbling after sensation. Unfortunately, it's 90% sex, 10% plot, none of it gratifying.

I reached chapter 15 and gave up. Too much time spent on sex. I'm no prude but that emphasis on sex does nothing for the story but says a lot about the author. Shame because there are the bones off a half decent story in there.

Sci-fi is not my typical pick but after reading the free sample I was hooked. I love how the characters are messy and not politically correct. This book has a great storyline with an unexpected twist. And as always Pippa brings the story alive with vivid writing and perspectives from multiple characters! Starting on #2 right now!
