This is the 9th book in the fabulous Maverick series, all standalone and all different. Keane Lytton had been backup on a mission with Nico Stratus and now it was his turn to lead. The Mavericks are a deep opp undercover operation, they are made up of ex military personnel who are fed up with the constraints of military life, the Mavericks work in pairs, they follow no rules, have seemingly limitless resources and they get the job done. Nico was to be Kean's contact and Lennox his backup. Keane was looking forward to a challenging mission and was devastated when he thought that they would be looking for two bodies, one of which was the daughter of the Admiral, the Admiral had commissioned the search. Sandrine Coulter and Brenda Leigh had disappeared overboard whilst sailing in the Puget Sound, two men on the boat made it home and reported them missing. Greg was Brenda's boyfriend and Scott had been Sandrine's boyfriend until she found him in bed with another woman, she was on the trip under protest. As the story unfolds the two women are rescued from the sea and imprisoned in a small cove from which there was no escape and one of them was badly injured. Keane and Lennox began their search, the information that they had was that two people had disappeared the previous week under similar circumstances, a message had been received from one of them saying that they were being held captive and then their bodies were found, they had been shot. This gripping story contains kidnapping, murder, infidelity, it has suspense and intrigue and of course, being a Dale Mayer book, romance, a really good read. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

What was planned as an outing on Puget Sound became a search and rescue instead. The outing seemed innocent enough in the very beginning however more mystery than I expected quickly ensued. Two women overboard, one being a daughter of an admiral brought the attention to the Mavericks. Keane was a bit taken aback by being asked to participate in what looked like a routine search and rescue mission but he was still ready for the danger, excitement and fight that presented itself. Multiple islands presented a problem as did the fact a distress call was received the previous week after an incident when two people went missing. The presence of a top secret research center upped the mystery. Both Keane and Lennox wound up on quite the adventure which kept me reading way too late at night. Thoroughly enjoyed their problem solving, the twists and turns and the interplay of the characters. Definitely a great read. Epilogue hints about the Lennox's adventure in Germany. I'm ready!

Keane and Lennox work for a covert blank ops organization the Mavericks. When two girls, Sandrine and Brenda are reported having fallen overboard into the Puget Sound, finding them seems like it would be impossible. When one of the girls is the daughter of an Admiral, the Mavericks are called. Keane and Lennox search all of the islands near their last known location and they finally find. Due to the storms, the US Coast Guard can't pick them up right away so they are stuck on the island for another night. The action just gets started at this point, every time you think it's safe, you find out it still isn't. Then they get picked up by the US Coast Guard and you think the story will end there, but it is not over. This book had a story line that as unique and filled with many twists and turns. I am a big fan of Dale Mayer and love how she can keep writing stories that are fresh and entertaining.
