Pouco se sabe sobre os dados biográficos de Gil Vicente. Acredita-se que tenha nascido entre 1465 e 1470, provavelmente na cidade portuguesa de Guimarães. Ao longo da carreira, escreveu mais de 44 peças em português, castelhano e bilíngue (português-castelhano), consagrando-se como o fundador do teatro laico em Portugal.
