Not all wrist fractures are treated in the same way, and x-rays should be studied in order to diagnose the type of fracture (picture ). The treating physician should be able to suspect especially the following (poor management may lead to osteoarthritis): Fracture of the scaphoid bone (it is not always apparent on x-rays taken on presentation) Ligament rupture between the scaphoid and lunate bone (scapholunate dissociation) Bennett’s fracture at the base of the first metacarpal bone
