A strong young peasant who only wanted to be a soldier, Kang Keqing was called the Girl Commander. Lily Lee was born in China, has studied in Singapore, the US and Australia and now teaches Chinese language and literature at the University of Sydney. She is the author of The Virtue of Yin: Studies on Chinese women (Wild Peony, 1994). Sue Wiles is a translator, proofreader and desktop publisher. She is the translator (as Sue Mackie) of T'ai Chi, two Chinese books on t'aijiquan (David Ell, 1981).
