Virginia Woolf (1882-1941) war eine englische Schriftstellerin sowie Verlegerin und eine der bekanntesten Vertreterinnen der klassischen Moderne im 20. Jahrhundert. Zusammen mit ihrer Schwester, der Malerin Vanessa Bell und anderen, gehörte sie der Bloomsbury Group an. Sie litt ihr Leben lang unter Depressionen und beging 1941 Selbstmord. Zu ihren bekanntesten Werken gehören "Mrs. Dalloway", "Zum Leuchtturm" und "Orlando".
