Clarissa, che è a conoscenza della vera identità di Sebastian, lo sostiene nell'indagine fingendosi la sua fidanzata. In cambio, lui la aiuta a far ingelosire il vanesio Duca di Westbridge alla cui mano la giovane aspira da sempre. Ma i sentimenti che entrambi fingono di provare presto prenderanno il sopravvento.
