Tacitus' account of Nero's principate is an extraordinary piece of historical writing. Rhiannon Ash is Fellow and Tutor in Classics at Merton College, University of Oxford. She has published widely on Tacitus and on Roman historiography, including a commentary on Tacitus' Histories II in the same series (Cambridge, 2007).
