My name is Johanna. I feel happy that you are reading this book. I’m sure you know how important can be the role of rivers in supplying fresh water for all of us. It keeps me agitated when I think or see the wastage of fresh water and degradation of rivers in the name of development and industrialization. I am worried that you are not aware about it. However, you must learn about preserving the rivers for a better and sustainable future. Rivers are the backbone of human civilizations. We cannot live without water and rivers are the largest source of freshwater. In fact, all civilizations in the past and present flourished near river banks. Even though they only hold a small amount of the Earth's water, yet they have always been vital to human life, carrying freshwater to people, plants and animals all over the world. And they're super-powerful forces of nature, too – carving out deep valleys and gorges, and shaping the land as they flow to the ocean with unending beauty. That’s why I decided to write this book. The environmentalists and global leaders are facing the pressing questions, how to preserve rivers and restore their originality, and stop degrading them in the name of growth and development. If we do not save water, there will be scarcity of water and we will not be able to do various activities where water is required. Rivers also affect life on earth and their degradation will also affect a lot. The book is a call to preserve rivers in our locality and create awareness. Throughout the book, we will take a look at their importance and how to save them.
