Bila di sebutkan kata polimer sebagian besar orang akan berasosiasi ke produk plastik. Hal ini tentu tidak akan salah karena plastik merupakan salah satu produk polimer yang paling banyak di gunakan. Lebih jauh, orang juga kesulitan memberi nama jenis plastik pada produk tas "kresek" atau wadah air kemasan atau pada kipas angin misalnya.
