First book was great. After attempting to read what started as some mild dismay of the main character I though oh well not bad. After only more problems arose did I decide to look further into what the series was about did I discover what could've been a great series! Turns into a lot of rambling that just makes this series unbearable. Disappointed that I won't be able to finish a series due to a great first book followed by this trash.

Normally like Hobb's work, but found myself flipping through pages at a time in this series out of sheer boredom. Additionally, the main protagonist is so whiny that I wanted to throttle him most of the time.

After the first book the story goes off on a tangent from what you're beginning to expect in the story - I did not enjoy this book nearly as much as all of her others. By the middle of the second book it was more of a chore then an enjoyment to listen to the main character's misery.

About the author

Robin Hobb was born in California but grew up in Alaska. It was there that she learned to love the forest and the wilderness. She has lived most of her life in the Pacific Northwest and currently resides in Tacoma, Washington. She is the author of five critically acclaimed fantasy series: The Rain Wilds Chronicles (Dragon Keeper, Dragon Haven, City of Dragons, Blood of Dragons), The Soldier Son Trilogy, The Tawny Man Trilogy, The Liveship Traders Trilogy, and The Farseer Trilogy. Under the name Megan Lindholm she is the author of The Wizard of the Pigeons, Windsingers, and Cloven Hooves. The Inheritance, a collection of stories, was published under both names. Her short fiction has won the Asimov's Readers' Award and she has been a finalist for both the Nebula and Hugo awards.
