Richard II is a historic chronic by William Shakespeare (1595) that embraces the events of years 1399-1400. In the centre of the play are the dethronement of King Richard and seizure of power by his cousin Henry Bolingbroke, the founder of the Lancaster dynasty Henry IV, and later the murder of the imprisoned Richard. It was referred as a tragedy in a number of editions in author's lifetime.
