Paul Howarth was born and grew up in the UK before moving to Melbourne in his late twenties. He lived in Australia for over six years, gained dual-citizenship in 2012, and now lives in Norwich with his family. He graduated from the UEA Creative Writing MA in 2015 and was awarded the Malcolm Bradbury Scholarship. Only Killers and Thieves is his first novel.

This is a vivid account of the frontier wars in Central West Queensland. I loved Howarth's depiction of the landscape almost as much as his description of family and settler relationships

Gripping read and really well written. Descriptions of the brutal treatment of the native population make for very grim reading but give a truthful account of the shameful story of the Australian colonisers

Paul Howarth is a British-Australian author and former lawyer. He holds a master's degree in creative writing from the University of East Anglia, where he was awarded the Malcolm Bradbury Scholarship, and currently lives in Norwich with his family. Only Killers and Thieves is his first novel.
