Dorothy L Sayers' great lay contemporaries in the Church of England were T. S. Eliot, C.S. Lewis and Charles Williams, but none of them wrote a book quite like The Mind of the Maker. During a career in advertising Dorothy L Sayers supplemented her income by writing. Creator of the character Lord Peter Wimsey, she also wrote religious drama and many works of religious interest and literary criticism. Sayers died in 1957.
