Alan Moore è il pluripremiato scrittore di capolavori come Watchmen, From Hell e V for Vendetta, opere acclamate in tutto il mondo. Molti però ignorano che prima di diventare celebre, Moore ha firmato in Inghilterra una delle sue opere più bizzarre e moderne. Come autore unico e usando lo pseudonimo di Jill de Ray, dal 1979 al 1986 ha scritto e disegnato la striscia Maxwell, the Magic Cat. Serializzata sulle pagine del quotidiano Northants Post, attraverso il suo cinico protagonista felino la strip raccontava l’attualità del Regno Unito in anni complessi, ironizzava su vizi e virtù dei britannici e lanciava frecciate a bersagli eccellenti, dalla Casa Reale alla premier Thatcher. Finalmente, l’opera perduta del maestro di Northampton approda per la prima volta in Italia, con una delle sue rare edizioni al mondo, ricca di extra, dietro le quinte e tributi di grandi autori che rendono omaggio a Moore… e a Maxwell, il gatto magico.
