About the author

Mathew Thomas is a post-graduate with honors and distinction in Engineering in the discipline of Missile Technology from the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. He served in the Indian Army during the wars against China and Pakistan. He has participated in military action against terrorists in 1961 and has successfully handled communal rioters in 1969.

He has been trained abroad in modern manufacturing techniques.

He headed the Missile Manufacturing facility of the Defence Research Development Organisation from 1975 to 1981.

He received the President’s commendation for distinguished services to Defence Research.

Taking voluntary after this stint in the Defence Forces, he served in the private sector at senior management and board levels.

After retiring from service, he has been active in civil society. He was the founder secretary of Citizens Action Forum, an NGO devoted to constructive engagement with governments and promotion of good governance.

He was a consultant to BESCOM. He has done many HR consulting assignments for MNCs. He has MBTI certifications for HR management.

His website, www.thefifthestateworld.com deals with civic issues, propagating awareness of people’s concerns, access to justice, transparency in governance and accountability of governments.

He has also been a visiting professor in management and has designed and conducted specialized courses in ‘Management of Innovation’, Operations Management etc. for MBA students.
