I read these books individually and would highly recommend buying the boxsets if you haven't gotten the individual books. The first book is about the Little Mermaid, but instead of losing her voice she loses her soul and must search for it and the other lost souls on land. She is helped by her seal companion and a 'ghost'. Also, the sea witch may not be as bad as originally thought. The second book is about Thumbelina. In a town ruled by the Fae, Lina may be the size of a fairy, but she doesn't have the wings. One day the Prince of the Fae, finds her and winds up giving her a butterfly to watch over her. The next day, Lina is captured and then her adventures really begin. The third book is a very interesting take on the evil queen from Snow White. I found it very intriguing and decided that I really liked this version of her. The queen is helped by the mirror and a prince imposter of her making. I received free copies of these books through Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving this review.

My favorite aspect of these stories is that they are more on par with the Brothers Grimm rather than Disney. Laura Greenwood has truly reimagined them into her own unique stories, reworking characters, storylines and overall creating stories that feel fresh to read. They were not the stories I expected but I was pleasantly surprised by them. I am very much looking forward to the next three books in this series. -Balancing Scales: 3 Stars This was a cute way to start this series and not what I anticipated going into it. Mari as the young naive mermaid is very well done. Her sidekick Shelbie was adorable and was a fantastic support for Mari while she sets out on her land adventure. While I enjoyed the overall story and most of the characters, the pace was a bit slow for the majority of the book for me. It does pick up in the last quarter though and I did enjoy the ending. I look forward to seeing how the other stories are told. -Golden Wings: 4 Stars Thumbelina was not a story I was very familiar with so I briefly brushed up on it before reading this story and I am so glad I did. I really enjoyed the creativity in how the characters were adapted and the overall feel of the story. Lina fought through each hardship and obstacle in her life and along her journey, she was definitely a strong, smart heroine. I wish there had been a tad more on the romance side, I think maybe a bit more between Trent and Luna would’ve given a more well rounded ending. Overall though I really liked the story. -Poisoned Fate: 5 Stars I LOVED this story, definitely my favorite so far. I thoroughly enjoyed that this story took a different route from the previous two as it was more of a “villians” story. It also had more of a romantic element to it that the previous two stories were rather light on, so I was excited to see that. Katya and Gideon were a fantastic duo with great chemistry and Riki was the perfect loyal, adorable companion. It felt like as the books progressed the author was finding her stride as each book felt better than the previous. The pace in this one was much better, less repetitive/unnecessary inner dialogue and the chapters overall felt, detail wise, that they were more concise. Great read. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

In this collection of three fairy tale retellings, you will take a new look at THE LITTLE MERMAID, THUMBELINA, and SNOW WHITE's Evil Queen, each with a low heat romantic m/f sub-plot, plenty of magic, leading ladies who can save themselves, and familiars who help them. Below is a review of one of the stories to give you an idea of what’s inside. The UNTOLD TALES Books 1-3 Collection includes: ** BALANCED SCALES: Join Mari as she ventures up from the sea in order to save her soul, accompanied by her seal familiar. ** GOLDEN WINGS: Adventure through the city with orphan, Lina, as she discovers what it truly means to gain her wings, helped by her trusty butterfly. ** POISONED FATE: Discover why the Evil Queen became who she was as Katya makes choices she'd rather not, comforted only by her pet wolf. *** Reviewing “BALANCED SCALES (#1)” *** This was a fun retelling of The Little Mermaid, which is a favorite story for me. Mari, with her kind heart, breaks the rule about not going to the surface before her 18th birthday. She saved a man's life which ended up with her losing her own soul in the process. She goes to the sea witch to get more information so that she can go onto the land and search. Aaron, a ghost Mari meets, helps her navigate on land. But he disappears. When she meets up with the man she had rescued, he wants to help her on her journey to retrieve her soul. Will she be successful in her quest? Can she trust Erickson despite her discomfort? Will she find out why the souls of her people are being stolen? This was a wonderful story, well-paced and with intriguing characters. But who can the innocent Mari trust? She may lose more than her soul if she makes the wrong choices!
