Based on the title, I thought this book would have been more about Ritz or the bond between the mates, however, it was just an extra crime that needed to be solved. It's set in between Spell Caster and Spell Tamer and although is a standalone, makes more sense to be read after Spell Caster rather than reading the set and then this one. The stage in the relationship between the mates is still early stages in this book. I enjoyed reading it, but was expecting something different. I received a complimentary copy of the book and I'm leaving a voluntary and honest review.

How can a siren drowned? Cassie and her guys have quite the whodunnit as they realize they don’t understand the ins and outs of every paranormal… they know what it’s like for their own species, but when a Siren drowns they suddenly have far more questions than answers. This done in one quick read focuses on the case, and tucks in character moments, and relationship building exchanges that deepen our understanding of Cassie, Isaac, Zack and Hadrian.

This is a very short story introducing us to Cassie and her mates. They have to figure out how a siren could drown in a canal. I found this to be a fast read and an interesting story. I enjoyed how Cassie and her mates work together to solve the mystery. I really like her familiar Riz. I would recommend this book..
