Uno di questi è l'ispettore G.7, che a Maigret non somiglia affatto: ha trent'anni, i capelli rossi, l'aria timida; e guida la macchina. In questo racconto il giovane ispettore si trova a dover risolvere una faccenda piuttosto intricata, in cui ci sono cadaveri che vengono sostituiti e poi scompaiono, e soprattutto c'è una misteriosa ragazza, bionda, bella e un po' folle.
