Overall this was a pretty good story, It is well written and has characters that are memorable and well developed. It is a small town romance with some mystery and suspense mixed in. The storyline is enjoyable although at times I felt it was extremely predictable. Also, I found Colton overbearing while Misty seemed naive and weak. Still there was enough going on in the story to keep me reading. This is the second book in the series but I didn't feel lost by not having read the first book. In the end I'd give this one 3.5 stars and I would recommend.

This cowboy romance is a gripping read that warms the heart. Colt and Misty are strong characters that easily enthrall readers with their sweet romance which grips emotions and has them empathizing with the heroine when she faced with a deadly threat and heartache. The chemistry between Colt and Misty sizzles with desire and passion and Colt takes on the protective knight when he comes to Misty’s aid which makes readers pulse pound in excitement. The story has quite a bit of emotional turmoil as Colt must face his family and their opinions while helping Misty with her troubles and the steady faced plot is full of suspenseful events and some excitement as danger stalks Misty and her family. Some of the dialogue between Colt and Misty is a little on the cheesy side and while Misty’s characters is strong, she’s a bit too naïve. Overall, the author has created an intriguing family atmosphere that catches readers’ attention and ensures that they want to get to know the whole family and this romance is a heart-warming read.

Hot Target Cowboy by June Faver Dark Horse Cowboys #1 Colton Garrett and Misty Dalton star in the first book of this series as Misty falls on hard times and Colton steps in to ease her situation. Misty and her younger brother are holding on by the skin of their teeth as she cares for her dying father and deals with her older less than responsible brother. When her brother is killed, her farm may be lost and murders begin to take place there is more than romance on the mind of Misty as she finds safe haven under Colton’s wing. Of course there are nay sayers and problems but this story ends happily for most of those involved. There is a sense of family, caring, community and doing the right thing that runs throughout this book and I expect it will continue as the series unfolds. There is a bit of church and religion in the book – just a heads up for those who might want to know. I am hoping that the editors will pick up that O+ is NOT the universal donor but O- is….
