The definitive biography of Nelson. Even the boring land bound bits are compulsive reading. Well researched and brilliantly written, John Sugden obviously has a passion for the Admiral but has been subjective enough to include his well publicised flaws in detail. This book covers the rise of Nelson with a long awaited second book covering the glory years. A simply wonderful read.

This is a really well written and documented book. I am putting 4/5 because this book doest not cover the whole Nelson's life. I think you will need to get "Nelson: The Sword of Albion" I believe. In my case I did not realise that, so I got "The Pursuit of Victory" by Roger Knight. So I end up reading first part from one author and the second for the other. I should say Robert Knight's books is shorter and compound and overall view in one book.
