Almost no president was as well trained and well prepared for the office as James Buchanan. He had served in the Pennsylvania state legislature, the U.S. House, and the U.S. Senate; he was Secretary of State and was even offered a seat on the Supreme Court. being that there is nothing written about the man. I am glad that I was able to read something. the book felt too much like a timeline than a rich instruction about the man and his times, which were so incredible. the man buchanon himself, infuriating, so I guess the author proved enough to show how this president failed so hideously at all that he did. it is a great lesson in ego and how a man can allow a nation to fall inro civil war because of his righteous beliefs and inability to protect all the nation instead of some of it.
