This was the first book of this series that I read. It prompted me to then start from the beginning, to read them all in order. And now I've re-read this one, and the next. I will definitely be reading the whole series...I can't get enough, will definitely re-read ALL of them again. I found myself looking into a very different world than the one that I grew up in. I do believe that "gang life" is very much like this story. My heart went out to many of the characters, as this life was all they knew, that they were willing to die (young) proudly for it. JD grabs me from the first page, every time. Suzie

I will always love the In Death series, and will always read them when they come out. However, I am finding they are starting to drag a bit. The storylines are just a touch drab. It's not necessarily that they're being repeated, although after, what, 48 books you'd think they would overlap some. It's more that the excitement is going. They seem to be getting shorter and way too predictable. I truly do think it's time JD Robb (Nora Roberts) maybe take a break from the In Death books. Let some time pass between them. Find a storyline that will thrill us again, keep us on the hook until we find out what happens at the very end. All those things that are missing now. While I do love Roarke (who doesn't?), and will always love the personalities of Eve, Peabody, McNab, Feeney and the rest and there are so many to love in these books, I don't want to reach a point where I cringe at the thought of another In Death book. This one is about something close to any inner city's heart; gangs. Eve and crew come across a murder that sparks a whole investigation into 2 separate gangs and all their affiliates. A little predictable in the way it goes. But I'll leave that to each of you to decide. I need more, Nora, or I guess I need a vacation from them. I'm sorry to have reached this point as I own and have read every single one of the books in this series, but here I am and I'm hoping your hear me when I say, keep the love alive by giving it time to come up with something fresh. Please.
