Gotthold Ephraim Lessing wurde am 22. Januar 1729 in Kamenz, Markgraftum Oberlausitz geboren und verstarb am 15. Februar 1781 in Braunschweig. Er war ein Dichter und Vertreter der deutschen Aufklärung.
