this is a decent read so far. i would not call it the authoritative book on the subject of hell, but contains some informative nuggets. I like Francis Chan's honesty about his own fears and thoughts about the subject. it would be great to see a debate between the antheist scholar Bart Erhman and Francis Chan about the subject. In my opinion, after reading both of their books, one by a atheist scholar and one by a Christian pastor, I would say many things about the subject are still debatable. But the existence of hell is really indeed. The exact nature of hell ..honestly, how do we know exactly unless we came back from hell and back or if God revealed it to man? I still cannot accept that God would subject the unrepentant sinner to eternal torment. How can I have joy in heaven knowing full well some of my loved ones and friends are in hell for eternity ? This book is written for the masses and layman like myself, but I have a feeling it is a bit lacking in terms of scholarly rigor and is too dismissive of other theories about the subject and doesn't go to enough detail. For example, he glosses the subject of the 2nd Death it seems and also briefly mentions C.S Lewis thoughts on the subject. He depends heavily on quotes from the Bible, but I would he would use a lot more other sources. Conclusion: it's a interesting read so far and I think all seeking the Truth should read it. But i don't think it's the last word on the subject. Maybe perhaps one reason why hell is no longer preached on the pulpit in modern times is that frankly, scaring people to attend church doesn't work as well as in medieval times.

Loved it but it lost one star because it is written like a textbook and was hard to push through at times. Very eye-opening and has definitely equipped me well for conversations with christians who don't believe in hell.
