Sara Paretsky, 1947 in Kansas geboren, gehört zu den Mitbegründerinnen der amerikanischen "Sisters of Crime" und ist eine der renommiertesten Kriminalschriftstellerinnen weltweit. Sie wählte die Stadt zu ihrem Wohnort, die bis heute eine Hauptrolle in ihren Romanen spielt: Chicago. Dort lebt auch ihre berühmte Heldin Vic Warshawski.
