If you have not yet experienced the magic of Elisa Braden’s Regency England, I am both sad and happy for you. Sad, that you’ve not had the joy, but happy now that you know you can! Elisa is on a very short list of writers that I consider Diamonds of the First Writer, literally speaking. Her books are beautifully crafted, elegantly written, and combine the perfect amount of angst, pathos, adventure, and humor. In her newest, “A Marriage Made in Scandal”, we catch up with the third Huxley daughter, Lady Eugenia. Genie is recovering from a “slight” (cough) scandal involving a footman and skirts up to there. Anyway, she is saved from a dreary future by Lord Phineas Brand, the Earl of Holstoke (whom faithful readers may remember as the suitor of Genie’s elder sister, Maureen). What ensues is a marvelous romp of murder, fashionable hats, steamy romance, and pithy observations by the Dowager Marchioness of Wallingham. PLEASE be kind to yourself and read this marvelous series!

I’m a fan of Elisa Braden and this book did not disappoint! There is a strong story line and characters that drew me in and I could not put the book down. This is part of the Rescued from Ruin series but is a stand-alone book. Phineas Brand age 33 is the Earl of Holstoke and he is looking for a bride. Not so easy when his Mother was a murderer and his Father was considered draft but only because he was being poisoned by the aforementioned Mother. Lady Eugenia Huxley age 22 is thought ruined by the Ton and would just like to go into business for herself making hats. Genie feels like she is a great burden to her family. They are not an obvious pair since Phineas had asked Genie’s sister to marry him six years ago and her sister had turned him down to marry the love of her life. Phineas and Genie can’t seem to stop the attraction or interest each has in the other. This book made me laugh at times and cry at other times. I consider writing that can pull me into the story and make me feel the emotions of the characters as well written. I highly recommend this book. I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Katherine Duchette
My favorite so far in the Rescued from Ruin series. I probably have thought so at the end of each book, but truly, this one topped them all! I know this cannot be the end of the series so I am looking forward to the stories for Hannah, Kate, John....
