Hereward was a teenage hooligan from the Fens of Anglia, the son of Earl Leofric and Lady Godiva (yes, the one who rode naked to humble her husband). He killed and killed until he was exiled, where he became a mercenary suppressing the Dutch on behalf of Norman overlords. When they invaded his own homeland he spent many years fighting a guerilla war to keep our region free from tyranny, the last to fall in England. But he was unfaithful to his wife, and that fatal flaw meant that he made a peace that his many enemies (including his own son-in-law) were bound to break. His last battle was his best, taking out his final enemy with his shield when the fool stepped forward to check he was dead. Vigila et ora.
