This is the second book I have read by this author, and it definitely won’t be the last. This talented author gives us a story about two individuals, that is heartbreaking as well as heartwarming. Lindsay , now divorced and pregnant, has decided to return to the town that was home. Damien Trent, an ex-Marine, has returned as well. He is back not due to happy memories, but for the funeral of his abusive father and to sell the home that held painful memories. He comes across Lindsay on the road when her car breaks down. They are both surprised to see each other. She was the only one that lend him a hand as a child, and he was the one she had a crush for most of her youth. As the story progresses , we see how they are both healing but trust is still a struggle for them. Fears of not being good enough , and of not running away from what could be a hopeful future, are constantly in Damien’s mind. It was touching to see how sweet and wonderful Damien was with baby Maris. A reminder that what makes a parent is not only biology, but the nurturing displayed since birth. Ms James gives us an engaging plot with characters that are complex and endearing. Looking forward to what she has in store in future books . I was gifted this copy. The opinions expressed are solely my own.

In With the Tide by Charlee James. This is Lindsey Hunter and Damien Trent’s story. This was an entertaining read. Lindsey and Damien went to school together and their paths cross again. They both have difficult issues that they are dealing with. Lindsey is back home recently divorced and pregnant and Damien is back home to bury his father that abused him. I really liked Lindsey and Damien’s characters. Can Lindsey and Damien find true love, happiness, and healing from their past hurts? I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

I really enjoyed this sweet love story. The characters I thought were very well done. The hero, Damien is our bad boy turned ex-Marine. The heroine is played by Lindsey, town sweetheart, returning home as a pregnant divorcee. The chemistry is still there between these two, which makes for a delightful story. The birth of baby Maris was one of my favorite parts of the story. It seemed a little short and rushed to me. Maybe because I found it so touching and the turning point to their relationship. I just felt it deserved more detail. Both characters are strong individuals, having gone through their own nightmares. Lindsey's ex was verbally abusive and controlling. Depleting her of any self as-steam. Damien's nightmare started as a child from his drunken fathers beatings. Then was added to by his several stays in Afghanistan. Together they find themselves stronger and more capable to work through their issues. There is a line from the story that to me sums up this story line. “....for a second chance at first love rarely came twice in a lifetime.” Loved this book and I recommend it. This ARC book was complimentary, provided by the Publisher and Net Galley. My thanks to them. I am voluntarily providing my honest review
