Amber James was born in 1983 in Melbourne, Australia. She grew up surrounded by surfers and the finest waves in the world, but ever since she was a teenager, this true romantic set her sights on literature. She went on to study modern literature and became a teacher while continuing to write short stories. During a language exchange in California she met her future husband, originally from Beverly Hills, who was the first person to read her stories. After leaving her native Australia for good and encouraged by his enthusiasm and unfailing support, she decided to write her first novel Captive.
