Beginning with an overview of the distribution and utilization of healthcare facilities in developing countries, this book presents an in-depth investigation of the role they play in Mau district, India. It analyses primary data collected through a sample survey of 680 households selected from 31 villages and two urban centres of Mau district. It then moves on to discuss the conceptual and theoretical framework of healthcare facilities, throwing light on the variation in their availability, accessibility and affordability. The book then considers the distribution of healthcare facilities, focusing on their spatio-temporal change and rural-urban variations, before moving on to addressing the relationship between the socio-economic characteristics of inhabitants and their utilization pattern of healthcare facilities in the area studied.

About the author

Dr Amrita Dwivedi received her PhD from Banaras Hindu University, India. She completed her postdoctoral work at the Civil Engineering Department of the Indian Institute of Technology (BHU) Varanasi, where she is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Humanistic Studies. Her research focuses on environmental studies.

Dr Arvind Kumar Singh received his PhD from Banaras Hindu University, India, in 2010, and has been working as a Lecturer of Geography in the Department of Secondary Education in the Government of Uttar Pradesh, India, since 2011. He has published one book and more than a dozen research articles in various national and international journals.

Dr Karm Veer Yadav has been working as a project officer at the International Institute for Population Sciences (IIPS) Mumbai since 2016. He received his PhD from Banaras Hindu University, India, in 2013, and has published a number of research articles in various national and international journals.
