The Reapers

Niavian is a fairly young reaper considering how long reapers can live for. Her character seems slightly naive and sheltered at first. Then through a series of events Niavian gains more knowledge and grows considerably. With the growth of her character I found my opinion of her changed and I ended up liking Niavian more. Kain’s character is strong, caring and kind of funny. He’s very amiable. I liked how the relationship between the two develops, changing from mortal enemies to allies. They make a great team. Their’s is a tale of mystery and hidden secrets. Where friendships are questioned and figuring out who to trust is crucial. It’s original and quite different from other reaper books I’ve read. I especially thought the connection between reapers and their pocket watches was interesting. One of the things that kept me from giving this a higher rating was that the beginning moved kind of slow for me and it took awhile for me to get into it. Otherwise, I thought it was a pretty good story and look forward to starting the next book.
