Se basa en el mito griego de Adonis tal y como se retrata en la Metamorfosis de Ovidio, pasado por un filtro pastoril muy querido por Lope de Vega. Félix Lope de Vega y Carpio fue un autor nacido en Madrid en 1562 y fallecido en 1635. Célebre dramaturgo y poeta, se le considera emblema del Siglo de Oro de la literatura española y uno de los autores más prolíficos de la literatura universal.
