About the author

Wm. Hovey Smith is a professional geologist, writer, former military engineer officer, retail store owner, broadcaster, video producer, wild game cook, outdoorsman, stand-up comedian, and international speaker. This varied lifestyle produced periodic periods of unemployment that prompted his starting physical and intellectual businesses based on his needs at the time. He developed an approach that anyone can use to identify business prospects that fit their training and capabilities at the time and also allowed a person to plan longer term to enter fields that might require more training and certifications. This method relies on the fact that we, as humans, are capable of participating in many different fields during one's life that can be tailored to their interests and needs. Born three days after Pearl Harbor, Smith grew up in the rural South, served his military time in Alaska, and worked as a geologist throughout North America. He holds degrees from the University of Georgia and the University of Alaska in geology and also studied at the Universities of Arizona and Arkansas. He has published magazine articles since the early 1970s and has since produced over 20 books, over 850 YouTube videos, podcast radios, and spoken at national and international events on environmental and business topics. His publications have won numerous prizes from regional and national outdoor writers' organizations.
