About this audiobook

The foundation for all modern economic thought and political economy, The Wealth of Nations is the magnum opus of Scottish economist Adam Smith, who introduces the world to the very idea of economics and capitalism in the modern sense of the words. Smith details his argument in five books: Book I. Of the Causes of Improvement in the Productive Power of Labour Book II. Of the Nature, Accumulation, and Employment of Stock Introduction Book III. Of the Different Progress of Opulence in Different Nations Book IV. Of Systems of Political Economy Book V. Of the Revenue of the Sovereign or Commonwealth Taken together, these books form a giant leap forward in the field of economics. A product of the "Age of Enlightenment," The Wealth of Nations is a must for all who wish to gain a better understanding of the principles upon which all modern capitalistic economies have been founded and the process of wealth creation that is engendered by those principles.

A masterful reading or a masterpiece. The reading is so clear and well read with an English accent. You may think Adam Smith himself is reading to you at times. (Although Adam Smith was Scottish.) I doubt a more fine reading will occur in this day and age. And if it does, it will be from someone who heard this reading first. The material covered in this book is the foundation of America and details why the USA has stood strong for over 200 years. It is a book of its day, not for "woke" types.

This is the highest quality audiobook of the The Wealth of Nations on the market. Every other reading I found to be of much lower quality. Gildart Jackson's inflection is impeccable. His British pronunciation and cadence adds context to what would otherwise be difficult to understand for many modern English speakers. And he does it effortlessly. This is truly an under recognized performance. One can sense Adam Smith's upper class yet deeply caring character all through out Gildart Jackson's entire reading of the work. In the words of Adam Smith's successor Alfred Marshall, "The fact is that nearly all the founders of modern economics were men of gentle and sympathetic temper, touched with the enthusiasm of humanity. They cared little for wealth for themselves; they cared much for its wide diffusion among the masses of the people. They opposed antisocial monopolies however powerful. [...] But they were strong in courage and caution; they appeared cold, because they would not assume the responsibility of advocating rapid advances on untried paths, for the safety of which the only guarantees offered were the confident hopes of men whose imaginations were eager, but not steadied by knowledge nor disciplined by hard thought." I highly recommend this audiobook for those informal and formal students learning about economics from its inception. Most people do not have the time or attention to sit down and read The Wealth of Nations from cover to cover, but Gildart Jackson does it for us as we sit in the comfort of our cars or homes. Thank you Tantor Media and Gildart Jackson for producing such a wonderful work.
