The outrageous, absurd and hilarious adventures of Baron Munchausen were written in the 18th century by Rudolph Erich Raspe. Raspe was a German, living in England at the time and writing in English, who wished to remain anonymous in case the real Baron Munchausen took offence.
The stories have been added to and edited over the centuries by a number of different writers and publishers, and many artists have have been inspired to illustrate them. In 1988 they were made into a film which was written and directed by Terry Gilliam. The legendary Baron Munchausenโs tall tales of wonder and adventure.
