About this audiobook

This program features a bonus scene and an author's note—both audio-exclusives—and acknowledgments read by the author.

“[Patti] Murin's portrayal of Emma is captivating--a blend of sass, humor, and empathy with impeccable timing and nuances.”—AudioFile

She’s rewriting his love story. But can she rewrite her own?

Emma Wheeler desperately longs to be a screenwriter. She’s spent her life studying, obsessing over, and writing romantic comedies—good ones! That win contests! But she’s also been the sole caretaker for her kind-hearted dad, who needs full-time care. Now, when she gets a chance to re-write a script for famous screenwriter Charlie Yates—The Charlie Yates! Her personal writing god!—it’s a break too big to pass up.

Emma’s younger sister steps in for caretaking duties, and Emma moves to L.A. for six weeks for the writing gig of a lifetime. But what is it they say? Don’t meet your heroes? Charlie Yates doesn’t want to write with anyone—much less “a failed, nobody screenwriter.” Worse, the romantic comedy he’s written is so terrible it might actually bring on the apocalypse. Plus! He doesn’t even care about the script—it’s just a means to get a different one green-lit. Oh, and he thinks love is an emotional Ponzi scheme.

But Emma’s not going down without a fight. She will stand up for herself, and for rom-coms, and for love itself. She will convince him that love stories matter—even if she has to kiss him senseless to do it. But . . . what if that kiss is accidentally amazing? What if real life turns out to be so much . . . more real than fiction? What if the love story they’re writing breaks all Emma’s rules—and comes true?

4 stars audiobook review Hooray for humor, love, and a terrible screenplay! This was a romcom that delivered the goods in humorous banter and situations. There was that angst of will they or wont they, forced proximity, and temporary work relationship. enjoyed the character growth. The narrator did a great job, for sure! She embellished the emotions behind the pain between the characters' lives. She brought out the fmc to life. My only dislikes, and for me, it's because I'm picky/spoiled about certain things: This is (except for that bonus chapter) in the fmc pov, and for me, i would have liked to get inside his head, too. I would have liked to have listened to him talk about his feelings/reasoning behind his actions/words. Which then adds to how this was only narrated by one person (she was great, though). I also thought some parts were either dragged out and repetitive. This was a new to me author, too, so sometimes it was hard to jump in and pay attention.

I went between the ebook and the audiobook narrated by Patti Murin for this one. I'll have to say that I loved having it read to me by such a delightful narrator. I have totally enjoyed everything I've read by Katherine Center and it seems like they are all pretty different from each other and distinctly wonderful. This one dealt with some health issues, grief, taking your chance in life and caring for aging parents. It also dealt with love...and romance. Emma is a published author of rom-coms and Charlie is a super successful writer of just about all genres--except romance. He really doesn't seem to have a romantic bone in his body, so when he writes a truly tragically awful rom-com, his agent pairs him with Emma. She's supposed to fix it by writing it with him. He, however, doesn't want anything to do with a collaboration. Charlie and Emma have so many humorously awkward moments before they get to anything resembling romance that I would have normally started to wonder if it would even happen. But, since it is a rom-com it was bound to happen and well worth the wait. It was wonderful to experience the shifting in Charlie's attitude and the beginning of his softer feelings for Emma. And oh my gosh, the canned biscuits! Thanks to St. Martin's Press, Macmillan Audio and NetGalley for these copies. All thoughts are my own.

✨ The Rom-Commers by Katherine Center ✨ I LOVED THIS BOOK!!! Every single second of it. Katherine Center is a master of writing romance. She writes in a way that allows you to connect deeply with the characters, understand them in a profound way, and even think differently about your own life. I think this might be my new favorite book that she's written. Emma and Charlie were the epitome of opposite's attract- she's fiery and bubbly and deeply in love with romance while he's grumpy and jaded and stuck in his ways. When Emma is hired to help fix Charlie's poor attempt at writing a Rom-Com, it's pure magic. From their banter to their hilarious activities, I adored every second of Emma and Charlie's story. They truly go from Enemies to Friends to Lovers in the best way. I cannot recommend this book enough! ✨ Opposite's Attract ✨ Screenwriters ✨ Enemies to Friends to Lovers ✨ Past Loss ✨ Family Dynamics 📚 Book: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🎧 Audio: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🔥Spice Rating: 🤍 🎧 𝗡𝗼𝘄 𝗹𝗲𝘁𝘀 𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗸 𝗮𝘂𝗱𝗶𝗼...
