Roy Nowlin Jr. was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. From an early age Roy's parents nurtured his love of reading, instilled a strong work ethic, and fostered a spirit of independence in him. Roy is a long-time entrepreneur, filmmaker, and transportation professional. His observations on life and learning come from hard won experience in the areas of law, logistics, and entertainment.
Roy's first career was in the law. After graduating from CUNY's New York City Technical College with an associate degree in legal studies, he joined the Manhattan District Attorney's Office. As a clerk in arraignment court Roy worked alongside notable attorneys Gregory Sheindlin, son of Judge Judy; Jamin Dershowitz, son of Alan; and John Kennedy Jr. at the start of their careers.
In 2004, Roy turned his life-long love of films into a business by partnering with five friends to open Liquid Metal Media, LLC, a film production company. The media savvy New York City marketplace is a challenging environment to open a new, underfunded venture. They struggled to keep the lights on. Far from being a liability, it provided an opportunity for the filmmakers to develop resourceful and innovative production solutions. Their creativity was well received in the burgeoning Internet video era. LMM produced dozens of music videos for A-list acts.
Roy opines on current events for the Wall Street Journal's social media channels, as well as his blog at www.roynowlin.com, and on Medium, LinkedIn, Instagram and TikTok under his name @roy_nowlin.
