About the author
Philip V. Bohlamn is Ludwig Rosenberger Distinguished Service Professor in Jewish History at the University of Chicago. He is the author or editor of several books, including Jewish Music and Modernity and Resounding Transcendence: Transitions in Music, Ritual, and Religion, coedited with Jeffers Engelhardt.
