About this audiobook

’Not just a readable, pacey account of an extraordinary individual and his quixotic quest ... but also a troubling exposé of the fragility of our entire financial system ... I loved it’
Oliver Bullough, author of Moneyland

For fans of Bad Blood and The Big Short, the story of how one reclusive trading prodigy manipulated Wall Street and amassed millions from his childhood bedroom – then short-circuited the global market.

A real-life financial thriller, Flash Crash gives panoramic insight into our economic landscape – its weaknesses, its crooks and its exploitable loopholes – and uncovers the remarkable, behind-the-scenes narrative of a mystifying market crash, a globe-spanning investigation into international fraud, and the man – Navinder Singh Sarao – at the centre of it all.

Depending on whom you ask, Sarao was a scourge, a symbol of a financial system run horribly amok, or a folk hero: an outsider who took on the tyranny of Wall Street and the high-frequency traders.

Macro VIGILANCE

Having been on Futex's January 2008 junior trader intake(just as the Kerviel rogue trader incident was happening) I was fascinated to read Flash Crash by Liam Vaughan. I actually purchased the audiobook version that Liam brilliantly narrates with some amusing accents to boot. He does a fantastic job in telling this fascinating story as it evolves over more than a decade in timeline. Not only do we learn all about Nav's financial market operations and his unique personality, it also provides a great insight into the evolution of electronic futures trading from it's inception in the early 90s. Additionally, the story provides a semi-forensic breakdown of the flash crash and the aftermath. Nav's story has several ironies, not least that ultimately he has become way more legendary in the wider financial world than the Trader Monthly's 30 Under 30 profile (that never was) could have ever achieved. Highly recommended from a career trader!
