Drawing on key biblical narratives from David’s dramatic life, Fighter Fugitive King draws out God’s grace in David’s life as he went through a series of trials, and how it can help men currently serving as leaders in some capacity to better consider Christ and his kingdom. Applicable to the workplace and Christian ministry today, existing leaders, men with leadership potential, and those mentoring them, will find it an inspiring and practical read that points to another King, one greater than David.

Commendations:

“Clear, theological, challenging and hugely practical. I would recommend this as a disciple making tool for older men to disciple a younger generation.”

Guy Miller, Leader of Commission Network of Churches, U.K.

“There are many good Bible teachers around. There are also plenty of people who can give wisdom about leadership. What is much more rare is finding somebody who can genuinely unlock the Bible and apply it spiritually and practically to Christian leadership today...my only criticism of this book is that Fraser didn’t write it 30 years ago – my investment into younger leaders would’ve been so much stronger if he had!”

Rev. Nigel James, pastor in the Elim Pentecostal Church Movement, based in Cardiff, Wales, U.K. and working in the USA with the Awakening Foundation and around the world in various mission partnerships.

This was a thoroughly enjoyable read. I love how I got to grasp the story of David beyond my (misleading) Sunday school figure who inspires us to slay our own giants. It proved to be deeply relatable to my own life and consistently pointed me to Jesus. I'm sure I'll return to it again in a fresh season of life in the future.

This audiobook is extremely easy to listen to. Fraser has a measured, well-paced voice and tone and helps the listener understand the messages he brings across. I love the lessons he picks out. He isn't afraid to tackle thorny or sensitive issues head on, and is committed to not just communication or illustration but application too. I came away with a number of lessons and lots to think about that tallied with my own life. Fraser certainly has a gift for considering the listener when studying and sharing scripture.

Practically relevant, attention-grabbing, and gospel-centered look at the life of King David Fraser Keay has put together a very helpful study of the life of King David. It is full of practical insight and wisdom from the author's experience mentoring young leaders. It also stays faithful to the Biblical text, both in its close look at the story of David from Samuel and Chronicles and in the way it connects each episode of David's life to the overall storyline of the Bible, finding its fulfillment in Christ. The section that struck me the most was about David's struggles with depression and discouragement. These chapters combine solid Biblical exposition with pastoral experience to help readers draw out lessons to put into practice when we are struggling or working with someone who is. It is also a well-written, fun read. The stories come alive, which helps the application from those stories come alive, too. I received a free copy. This is my honest opinion of the book.
