The Puck is a spirit of nature, which leads people astray. "A French Puck" is an English tale. One version of this tale you can find in Andrew Lang's Fairy Books. In the central area of France dwells a spirit, who plays tricks on people. Usually, the Puck performs its pranks about midnight, when cowboys fall asleep. Many years ago a man called William was going along the bank of a river and noticed a sheep. He wanted to take it home. So he went up to the sheep and shouldered it. Then he went home, but as he reached an avenue of walnut trees, he heard a voice above him. How did the story end? Read "A French Puck" to know it.
