The app will teach you languages, of sorts... on my android phone it has two problem; 1) the mobile/CPU seems to warm up like no other app, within about 15 minutes. 2) the keyboard, necessary for Latin and Klingon, doesn't always appear, or stay long enough, to type in the required answers. Especially when the mobile is toasty. In addition, when doing the "daily refresh" the questions are rather stale...

Duo used to be a great app for beginners and motivating novice learners in building daily habits to pursue their language learning goals. However, it has become an absolute plague of an ad ridden app. I sometimes encounter up to 2 30-second ads + their own push for Max and Super per lesson, this is simply ridiculous. Also, the quality of the lessons has been subpar for a while now. There are definitely better alternatives to beginner language learning out there compared to the current duolingo.

Edit: Have a 800+ streak now so still positive in general however, a warning. They give you super trials and a warning to end it, but after a lot of succesfull ones. I cancelled the trial a day before it ended, got confirmation in the app, but got charged 89.99eur anyway. Duo, Google and PayPal won't refund. So beware of thieving. Nearly on a streak of a year learning Japanese. Duolingo is nice to use and thought I've experienced it being annoying sometimes, the reminders do help to keep at it.
